Paper Recollections

I just received the Seas the Day stamp set by Dare 2B Artzy and I couldn't wait to use the images and sentiments to make some ocean-themed cards.   I started out by stamping the manatee and shells and colored them with Copic markers.  For the card front, I used Pixie Spray on the back of a mermaid scales stencil and adhered it to a piece of Bristol smooth cardstock.  I blended 3 colors of blue Distress Oxide Inks to make it look like the ocean water was getting lighter near the surface.  To add a little bit of sparkle to the water, I splattered some glitter ink on the stenciled card front. I decided to make this a shaker card, so I used a scallop square die to cut a window out of the center of the card front.  A piece of acetate was glued to the back of this window.  I blended Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink on the white card base.  A sequence mixture was made using blue, white, and iridescent sequence.  I glued a few of the sequence pieces to the card base along with one of the s

I love scrapbooking beach pages.  In fact, they take up most of the bulk in my scrapbook albums.  We usually take an annual summer trip to the beach but the pandemic forced us to cancel our beach trip this year.  I am still able to enjoy the sand and surf as I look back to past years and either finish up beach layouts that were left incomplete or were never created because life got in the way. This particular layout was the last picture I wanted to scrapbook of our trip to Orange Beach in 2016.  As I searched my stash for summer-themed paper, I came across the Echo Park Walking on Sunshine collection that I had never even opened, yet. I started by cutting out diagonal rays on the orange paper and lined these up against a strip of the striped paper.  I used a circle cutter to cut a large circle to place behind the striped paper. Bright colors make me happy so this was such a fun layout to put together.  It features papers from Vicki Boutin's Kaleidoscope collection.   To create the layout, the 5x7 photo was printed with a white frame and matted on black cardstock.  The photo was placed off-center so that the rays of the background paper would appear to radiate out from the center of the photo.  The hearts and butterflies were fussy cut from some of the other papers in the collection. I cut out hearts from black cardstock and placed them behind the colored hearts to make it appear as though there is a shadow behind the hearts.   I fussy cut the green ticket and brown tag from one of the papers and placed them to the right of the photo.  The title was cut from my Cricut using the Retro Mentho font that was downloaded from dafont.com  and then outlined with a white gel pen.  Using Tim Holtz's Thinlits Alphanumeric Tiny Type Upper dies, I cut the location out of black cardstock and adhered it to the brown

Today's card is another unicorn card featuring the Waffle Flower Be a Unicorn die.  I absolutely love the large unicorn die.  It has such a sweet face and it is cut so that the unicorn is able to hold something in its hooves.  I used silver cardstock for the unicorn's horn and wings and pink cardstock for the cheeks and ears.  I glued a thin strip of black cardstock behind the eyes and nostrils.  The edges of the unicorn were inked with Black Soot Distress Ink.  I had a few scraps of pastel-colored cardstock from my previous unicorn card so for some of the unicorns, I used the different colors of cardstock for the unicorn's mane.   For the featured card, I used a card panel cut from a diagonal rainbow striped paper from a paper pad I picked up from Michaels last year called Stay Magical.  I had several clouds that already had sentiments embossed in black leftover from my previous unicorn card, so I decided to use them up on these cards as well.  The edges of the clouds were

I love anything that has rainbows and unicorns.  They take me back to my elementary school days and remind me of my Lisa Frank sticker collection.  So when I saw the Avery Elle Peek-A-Boo Fair stamp, I knew I just had to have it - not for the Ferris wheel and bumper car but for the cute peek-a-boo unicorn.  I couldn't wait to place the unicorn peeking out over a cloud with a rainbow in the background. For the card panel, I used Bristol smooth cardstock and stenciled layers of clouds using Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink and My Favorite Things Cloud Stencil.  I used my Cricut to cut a white cloud and a pastel-colored rainbow.  I inked the edges of the cloud with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink and glued the rainbow to the cloud card panel.  The cloud panel was glued to a black card base. Today's card is a fun virtual reality birthday card created in Cricut Design Space and features a vibrant title backed by an alcohol inked panel. A couple of years ago, my son and I read the book Ready Player One,  a science fiction book about humanity's use of virtual reality to escape the real world. Fast forward a few years and now he wants his own virtual reality headset for his birthday.  I created this card for him to celebrate our love for this book and to serve as a precursor of the birthday gift that was to come. While creating this card, I wore the movie T-Shirt I bought last year so I could mimic the movie title font and colors.  I needed an easy way to make the title out of rainbow colors so I placed a few colors of alcohol ink on a felt pad and swiped it across Yupo Paper.  I downloaded and installed the font used for the movie title and cut the title out of a black A2 card panel using Cricut Design Space.  I backed the black card panel with the rainbow alcohol ink
