Lost in the Inky Darkness

Today's card features a few of the new Tim Holtz Sizzix and Ranger Halloween products.  I could not wait to use the Tim Holtz Skulls 3-D Texture Fades embossing folder and combine it with Distress inks and spray stains. I started by inking the flat side of the embossing folder with Black Soot Distress Archival Ink.  I sprayed a panel of water color paper with water and carefully placed this paper into the embossing folder. I ran the embossing folder through my Sizzix Big Shot 3 times. I took the embossed panel out of the embossing folder and cleaned the embossing folder with StazOn All-Purpose Stamp Cleaner. Next, I sprayed the panel with Tim Holtz Decayed Distress Mica Stain.  This gave it a green tinge with a hint of sparkle.  I decided to seal the card panel by dipping a foam blending pad into Distress Micro Glaze and dabbing this onto the card panel.  I glued a black cardstock matte behind the embossed panel and adhered it to a white card base. For the senti...

You Are A Little Crazy

Today's layout features my son's crazy antics and several Vicki Boutin products. To prepare the white cardstock, I covered it with a layer of clear gesso.  Once it was dry, I used a red Vicki Boutin Art Crayon mixed with a little bit of water and applied it through a Vicki Boutin circular stencil using a stencil brush.  I applied this to most of the cardstock and then repeated the process using an orange art crayon.  I used a pallet knife to apply Finnabair Golden Nugget Effect Paste through another Vicki Boutin circular stencil diagonally across the page.  To finish off the background, I mixed black acrylic paint with water and splattered it on the page.  I matte the smaller photo with an orange piece of patterned paper from the Vicki Boutin's 6x8 Color Study paper pad and matte the larger photo with the "Say Cheese" 12x12 piece of paper from the Kaleidescope collection.  I also placed a piece of this paper behind the smaller photo. I used a 2" circle punc...

Prom

What do you get when you combine Sizzix, Vicki Boutin, and a little bit of Tim Holtz?  A beautiful mixed media layout.   Today's layout began with a coat of Vicki Boutin Gesso onto a piece of 12x12 white cardstock.  After the gesso dried, I applied a Vicki Boutin reddish-orange art crayon onto a piece of acetate.  I sprayed it with a little bit of water and used a stencil brush to apply the watercolor mixture through a Vicki Boutin floral stencil near three corners of the layout.  I then used a gray art crayon and applied it onto the acetate. I mixed some of Vicki Boutin's Iridescent Glaze into the art crayon using a palette knife.  I applied the silver tinted Iridescent Glaze through Vicki Boutin's dotted stencil to each of the four corners of the layout.  Finally, I mixed some black art crayon with water onto the acetate and used Tim Holt's splatter brush to make small black splatters onto the page. While the mixed media was drying, I gathered u...

St. Patrick's Day Retro Oven

Today's St. Patrick's Day card features the Retro Oven die by Tim Holtz.  I just recently purchased this die along with some other products and wanted to combine them all into a holiday card. I started by assembling the oven using scraps of paper from my stash. The oven door was covered with a small piece of acetate.  I also cut the outline of the oven from 5 mm foam and adhered this behind the oven to create a shaker element.  I cut small shamrocks out of green foil cardstock using my Cricut machine and combined these with light green sequence to make the shaker material inside the oven. To create the card background, I started by inking a script stamp with Coffee Archival Ink and stamping it at the top and bottom of the card panel.  Then, I used a make-up blending brush to apply Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide through a gingham stencil onto the card panel.  I shifted the stencil and then repeated the process using Lucky Clover Distress Oxide.  Finally, I spraye...

New Wheels

I finally did it!  I broke down and cut into the beautiful Vicki Boutin Color Study collection.  This is my favorite paper collection of all time.  I have already made 3 layouts using this collection and will be sharing those with your soon.  Today's layout celebrates my daughter getting her first car. I started by applying white gesso to smooth white cardstock.  In the end, this was an unnecessary step since I did not use much water on the page.  I scribbled a Vicki Boutin orange art crayon on a piece of clear plastic and used a stencil brush to apply the crayon through the Color Study circular stencil.  I used this technique in three areas of the layout.  Next, I used blue ink to stamp small plus signs in the same areas where I stenciled. I cut a wide strip of the yellow star paper from the Color Study collection and a smaller strip of the blue and white striped paper and layered these across the middle of the page.  I cut the back of one o...

Wrap ALL My Arms Around You

I am bringing you a third card made from the Dare 2B Artzy Seas the Day stamp set.  I am using the octopus image to create a sweet card to give to someone who needs a little extra TLC. I started out by stamping the octopus on Bristol smooth cardstock. I used my Brother Scan N Cut to cut out the image and then colored it with alcohol markers.  I used a white gel pen to make a few highlights on the octopus. For the background, I scribbled Picked Rasberry and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Crayons on a Bristol smooth cardstock panel.  I used a paintbrush dipped in water to blend out the colors.  After the panel was dry, I used purple tape to tape down a fractal diamond stencil on top of the panel.  I used a Stencil Pal to spread Vicki Boutin's Iridescent glaze over the panel. This allows the blue and pink from the card panel to show through while giving the card panel a beautiful shine.  I adhered the octopus to the card panel using liquid glue. There are so many gre...

Class of 2021

It's graduation time and I have a fun and easy layout to share with you.  This layout features my daughter at her Senior awards ceremony.  Her high school colors are black and gold which matched perfectly with this year's graduation collection at Michaels.   I started by layering strips of each of the washi tapes in the bottom right of the layout.  In the other corners of the layout, I used a stencil brush to add gold gelato through a star stencil. I recently purchased a Heidi Swapp Minc machine and wanted to add some gold foiling to the layout.  Using the Minc machine, I created my own gold foiled diagonal striped patterned paper.   I matte the photo with gold foil cardstock.  I placed a piece of the diagonal striped gold foil paper behind the left side of the photo.  The photo was glued on top of the washi tape.  I used foam tape to pop up the graduation hat ephemera piece across the top left of the photo. I used my Cricut machine...
