Love to Dance

Today's layout uses the Bokeh technique from Vicki Boutin's Friday Night Live YouTube tutorial. This technique is truly magical, and I knew it would pair well with the stage lighting on my daughter's dance photos.

I started by prepping a piece of 12x12 cardstock with clear gesso.  While the cardstock was drying, I cut a piece of acetate with 3 different sized circle dies, leaving a lot of space in between the circle cutouts.  I scribbled a purple Vicki Boutin art crayon on my nonstick mat and sprayed it with a little bit of water.  I used a stencil brush to pick up the pigment and applied it in a circular motion to the left side of the cardstock.  I repeated this until the whole left side was covered in purple pigment.  Then, I repeated the process using a pink art crayon.  I placed the acetate stencil with the circle cutouts on top of the pigment.  Using a slightly damp baby wipe, I placed it on one of the circle cutouts and rubbed away the pigment in a circular motion.  I lifted the acetate stencil and repeated this process in several places along the right side of the cardstock.  Next, I scribbled the purple art crayon on my nonstick mat, wet it with water, and used a stencil brush to apply the pigment to the cardstock through the stenciled circles, overlapping some of the circles where I lifted the color.  I repeated this process using the pink art crayon.  The final product revealed a beautiful side panel of soft pastel overlapping circles.

I used papers from the Paige Evans Pink Paislee Bloom Street 6x8 paper pad to matte my photos.  I overlapped the photos being careful not to cover up too much of the mixed media circles.  I ripped the edges of one of the coordinating papers and adhered this to the bottom right and top right of the layout. I used one of the patterned papers from the paper pad that had some holographic detail to cut the word "DANCE" and placed it vertically down the right side of the page.  I used a smaller script die set to cut "Love To" out of holographic cardstock and adhered it to a piece of the patterned paper.  I offset this title block in holographic cardstock and adhered it above the main photo.

I cut butterflies out of a pink patterned paper and the bodies of the butterflies out of the same paper used for the word "DANCE".  I die cut the solid butterfly bodies out of vellum.  I adhered the butterflies to several place on the layout.  I used three black heat embossed sentiments from the Tim Holtz Tiny Text Stamp Set and inked the edges of each sentiment with Milled Lavender Distress Oxide ink.  I placed one of these on top of the main photo, one above the second photo, and the last one near the butterfly at the bottom of the page.

I absolutely love how this page turned out. If you haven't tried this technique, I encourage you to watch the tutorial linked below and give it a try.

Ready Player One

Today's card is a fun virtual reality birthday card created in Cricut Design Space and features a vibrant title backed by an alcohol inked panel. A couple of years ago, my son and I read the book Ready Player One,  a science fiction book about humanity's use of virtual reality to escape the real world. Fast forward a few years and now he wants his own virtual reality headset for his birthday.  I created this card for him to celebrate our love for this book and to serve as a precursor of the birthday gift that was to come. While creating this card, I wore the movie T-Shirt I bought last year so I could mimic the movie title font and colors.  I needed an easy way to make the title out of rainbow colors so I placed a few colors of alcohol ink on a felt pad and swiped it across Yupo Paper.  I downloaded and installed the font used for the movie title and cut the title out of a black A2 card panel using Cricut Design Space.  I backed the black card panel with th...

Glimmer Hot Foil Birthday Cards

Today's cards are part of my stash-busting series.  This is where I look around my craft room and grab a bunch of supplies that I haven't yet had the chance to use.  The results yielded two glimmer hot foiled birthday cards. I used the smooshing technique to apply Mustard Seed and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide inks onto white card panels.  After the panels were dry, I used the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System along with the Scattered Flowers and Diamonetta Background Glimmer plates to add Aura Glimmer Hot foil to the card panels.   The card panels were mounted onto pink cardstock.  I used the same Aura foil to glimmer the Happy Birthday sentiment onto white cardstock.   I cut the sentiment using a Momenta nesting border die.  I used a slightly larger border die to cut a sentiment border from the pink cardstock.  I cut pink and yellow flowers using the Sizzix Spring Things die set.  I ran the flowers and sentiment border through t...

Spellbinders Club Kit Valentine's Day Cards

Today's cards feature the Spellbinders January Small Die of the Month and the Glimmer Hot Foil Club Kits.  I couldn't wait to combine these two kits to create some Valentine cards. I used the dies from the Small Die of the Month kit to cut several pieces from pink and white cardstock as well as red and gold foil cardstock.  I used the Glimmer Hot Foil sentiment glimmer plates to glimmer several sentiments in red and gold foil onto white cardstock.  For each card, I glued the decorative frame to a white card base.  I added the smaller die cut panel to the decorative frame. For the shaker cards, I die cut the large frame out of white cardstock and trimmed off the decorative edges.  I adhered one of the smaller foil die-cut panels to this piece.  I trimmed down the edges some more leaving a small border around the inner panel.  I used the included heart die-cut to cut out a heart from the center of this white cardstock panel just inside the heart that was...
